For the past ten years, Sierra Streams Institute has offered local students a full program
of activities, including assemblies, science camps, and service learning days.
Our recent enrichment activities include week-long day camps during school breaks
and a summer camp program at Pioneer Park, provided in partnership with the City of Nevada City
Parks and Recreation Department.
We also offered a two-day program at Lyman Gilmore, where 6th graders learned about the
scientific principles of restoration, and then participated in restoration work.
The students filmed the workday, and are creating a documentary of their
experience for the SYRCL Wild and Scenic Film Festival.
We are assisting the Twin Ridges Elementary School District with
development of a new environmental science center at the
shuttered Malakoff School House, where we plan to offer
activities that encourage sustainability, including solar energy
and native plant gardens.
